Airsoft is a rapidly growing team sport and training aid in the UK. Having originated in the Far East nearly twenty years ago it has developed into a past time that thousands of people play every month.Airsoft uses life size non-lethal replica weapons that fire 6mm plastic pellets at low velocities.
The sport is similar to paintball but is more tactical with the weponary and kit used.

It is a game based on a honourable hit taking system. An opponent hits you with the BB and you must shout when you are hit. This can sometimes be for a medic to tab you back into the game. Otherwise you take your hit , raise your hand and return to your rejuvenate point.

There are skirmishing type games which are short 10 mins – 1 hour fast paced objective type games, these normally involve defend and attacking an area of land, but can also involve esorting persons/or a package from point to point all the while having a hunter team comming to get you!
There is also Milsim scenario events which normally are based on 1 hour to a full weekend of objective based games over a story line setting. This can involve role playing and more tactical ethics required.

A storyline is given and as the weekend unfolds and the targets are achieved / or maybe not achieved it will effect the end result of the storyline. These game are sometimes held at larger venues and MOD bases.
Both types require some tactics and training which really does come down to common sense. You are given an objective, you set a plan on how you are to achieve it and then within the time limit you go out and give it your best shot (no pun intended!) You can work as a team or an individual, all abilities can play the games.
Airsoft is just about as much as using your brain as it is using your body or the gun!

The games are styled around a military theme with two or more teams playing against each other, ‘eliminating’ players by shooting them. Currently the US Army and other Government organizations use professional Airsoft weapons as a training aid for instructing close quarter battle.
